Open Cast Calls for She Stoops to Conquer by Oliver Goldsmith

A Small Company In America (ASCIA) is holding open cast calls for their August 2010 production of She Stoops to Conquer by Oliver Goldsmith, directed by John F. Anderson. This production will be presented in ASCIA’s home in the New York Institute of Technology’s Old Westbury Campus. The theater is located in Salten Hall. This is also where auditions are being held. Performance dates are as follows:
Sat, 8/7 8pm, Sun, 8/8 3pm,
Fri, 8/13 8pm, Sat, 8/14 8pm,
Sat, 8/21 8pm, Sun, 8/22 3pm, and
Fri, 8/27 8pm, Sat, 8/28 8pm.

Rehearsals will begin as soon as casting is completed. There will be at least two rehearsals during the week and one over the weekend to start. This production is non-pay and non-Equity. Production week (starts Sun before opening) rehearsals will run Sunday through Friday nights with Saturday opening.

Roles that are open are as follows:

* Mrs. Hardcastle: Middle-aged lady, Tony's mother by her first marriage. A woman with social pretensions.
* Kate Hardcastle: The young, pretty daughter of Mr. Hardcastle by a previous marriage. She dresses in simple country dress to please her father and there lies the tale ...
* Constance Neville: Kate's close friend and confidante. Mrs. Hardcastle's ward, in love with George Hastings but "promised" to Tony.
* Mr. Hardcastle: A middle-aged gentleman, who prefers simple country living to fashion and life in town.
* Charles Marlowe: A young man from town, suitor to Kate. Shy or forward with women, depending upon their social station.
* George Hastings: Charlie's friend, suitor to Constance.
* Sir Charles Marlowe: Father of young Charles and good friend of Mr. Hardcastle.
* Tony Lumpkin: Mrs. Hardcastle's son from her first marriage. The buffoon / comic relief of the play.
* The Landlord of the Three Pigeons Alehouse
* Other smaller characters (which will probably be doubled) include Tony's drinking companions (4-5 young men) and several servants -- male and female.

Auditions are by appointment only but the director's schedule is flexible. To audition email director John F. Anderson at with resume and headshot if available. Come with a prepared speech (memorized) for the audition. The speech should be something you're very comfortable performing and which shows what you can do to your best advantage.
